- Pretty. Odd.: March 25
- Chapter 27: March 28
- Panic concert in Minneapolis: May 27
- Panic concert in Omaha: May 31

This week, I was listening to the Across The Universe Soundtrack and I forgot how good this is. And how easily it gets stuck in your brain...

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
Blackbird
Sang by: Evan Rachel Wood, Lyrics by: John Lennon

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these sunken eyes and learn to see
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to be free.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird fly, Blackbird fly
Into the light of the dark black night.

Blackbird singing in the dead of night
Take these broken wings and learn to fly
All your life
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise
You were only waiting for this moment to arise

Are You Afraid Yet? You Should Be...

Funny how if you, being the procrastinator you are, wait 'til basically the night before to finish your speech your teacher thinks its the best you've done. I feel sorry for the disgrace of a speech I did on poor John Lennon. He was a cool guy though. I'm glad I did him for the speech. I even wore my (Zoey's) Beatle's shirt for the occasion. Call me cheesy...

We start the driving -

Oh what the hell. My blog "sucks ass."

Anyone want to hear anything about my pathetic life?

What is Melanie listening to right now?: I Miss You - blink-182
I really need to do tech. There seems to be a lot of drama there that I could blog about.

Another Fork Stuck In the Road

This is probably the best day of my life this year. Not that I can even remember back far enough to know... After Driver's Ed, otherwise known as "Waste of Life" or, in simpler form, "Hell," me and my mom took a little trip to the Last Stop CD Shop. One of the most amazing stores EVER. And I got, not only Dane Cook: A Vicious Circle on DVD and a couple of games for Wii, but a BRAND NEW iPOD!!!!! I'll probably earn myself back problems from it's sheer size in physical and capacity forms. It's an amazingly emo (you should see its scars from cutting itself...) black 60GB BLACK iPod. Except for it being a little scratched up, it's my new best friend. Sorry, guys...

Whatever shall I name it? Third Time's A Charm?

In other news, I must register for my Sophomore year by tomorrow and my cat is trying to stuff himself in my CLOSED backpack. I have a speech on John Lennon (flower power!) due Tuesday and must present my English project in a little under two weeks. Yeah, that English project I haven't worked on at all.

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Thank You Ending - Number One Gun
P.S. Innards still shoved to the opposite side of my insides.

Favorite Song of the Week

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
Walk On Water Or Drown
by: Mayday Parade

Well, this hurts me more than I can stand to say
In just one sitting, you left the room so I could pray
So I'll pace the halls to see
If I could find a hole in something
Or maybe places to escape

Oh, and everybody knows this is the part
Of breaking down in anybody's arms
I'm reaching down and hoping this one's ours
God, please let this stay

And then I fell into pieces and she fell into me
Saying, "Play me a song. It's been too long since I've heard you sing."

And you got here just in time
To let me know I was worth saving
It's nothing more than for the hearts
Too proud to breathe
But I'm too scared to say the things worth saying
Who knew this trip would be this hard?

As I'm looking to the sky to count the stars
I wonder if you see them where you are
I'm down on both my knees
And pray tomorrow brings no pain

And then I fell into pieces and she fell into me
Saying, "Play me a song. It's been too long since I've heard you sing."

And yeah, we all fall to pieces
But at least you fell to me
But this is a wrong night
Tell me goodnight and let it go

I stayed here and you just pray
My head would clear and I'd stay safe
And the pieces left
That love had changed
Just saved everything

Oh, and everybody knows this is the part
Of breaking down in anybody's arms
I'm reaching down and hoping this one's ours
God, please let this stay

And then I fell into pieces and she fell into me
Saying, "Play me a song. It's been too long since I've heard you sing." (x2)

And yeah, we all fall to pieces
But at least you fell to me
But this is a wrong night
Tell me goodnight and let it go, oh...

DISASTER!

So, this morning I go upstairs after chillin' out and playing some Pokémon (more on that later), to shower. Cuz, you know, I'm the kind of person who likes showering on the occasion, especially since I didn't feel like waking up VERY early for the 7:30 freaking a.m. start yesterday to bathe. So I kinda wanted a shower. But lo and behold! Our hot water heater no longer produces warmth for our H2O here at the Dumdei residence. So I was just chillin' again in a green noxious cloud of my own stench when I decided, "My blog-friends need an update!" So here I am, and long time no see.

You may ask, "Hey, what have YOU been up to lately, Mel?" Well, let me tell you. Driver's Ed is a waste of LIFE. 3:30-6:30, almost every day. Listening to a scary guy - who likes to whistle LOUDLY at his innocent pupils at random, unpredictable intervals, I might add - talk to us for 3 hours takes a lot out of ya. I didn't go on the compy for a long time, and I'm finally over the withdrawals.

The music video for NINE IN THE AFTERNOON came out on Sunday. So go HERE to have your life blown to pieces by the amazingness. There just might be a little too much long underwear and mustaches for some of you, but push through the pain!

Zoey and Rich came to my house for awhile yesterday once school was let out at 12:30 and we Wii'ed it up for a bit. That's where the
Pokémon comes in. While Zoey was pwning Mario and Rich played Zelda a bit later, I sat for several hours with my face glued to a GameBoy playing Leaf Green. I bet all your Bulbasaur's haven't evolved to a level 20-something Ivysaur...

Oh! My dad just came and informed the water heater is now fixed, so I'm going to go...you know...

A Place In Time

This is me writing a speech *wink.* I really underestimated the sadness of Across the Universe. I watched it right after I got it yesterday and was near tears many times. Or maybe I just got wimpier since last seeing it. Who knows! I found this amazing website when I was "researching" for my speech. If you ever get bored, I'm sure you could entertain yourself for awhile HERE. I also found this guy on YouTube who gives tutorials on how to play songs on the piano. I learned a few...

That IS me playing that. Not that it's much. Very easy, and you could learn that from the YouTube guy easily even if you didn't play piano. But it made me feel real accomplished. And I also wanted to see what would happen when I attempted to upload a video...and it's taking forever. 9M/41M. Pfft.
I also learned Clocks by Coldplay and Mad World by Gary Jules. Or at least very small parts of them. And of course my Lying Is the Most Fun from Denver. Most coolest of ALL! ...12M/41M...

We haven't read out of Romeo and Juliet, so I have no dirty Elizabethan-Era comments for you. Speaking of that, there's another essay I need to write...

I've Got a Lovely Bunch of Coconuts...

Happy ACROSS THE UNIVERSE DAY! Or at least in my world it is. Probably February 5 in yours...but no matter! Also DANCING DAY for those of you 'involved" people trying out for Footloose. (Involved being a state of mind). Not that I frown upon being involved in extracurricular activities. It looks good on the college applications I hear. I wish bunches of luck to you all!

Today in English, we began reading the Shakespearean classic, Romeo and Juliet. And let me tell you...it is DIRTY! I enjoyed it way too much. Plus being able to brandish weapons in the same room as Mrs. Wallenberg was nice...even if the maximum amount of damage one could inflict would be a good bruise... So now, to honor the dirtiness of Romeo and Juliet, I will be posting a log. Of everything dirty they say. Feel free to skip it if it means nothing to you. I won't be *sniffle* offended...*sob*
Dirty Comments - Act One, Scene One (<--- Crimson, for bloodshed...)
  • "...thrust his maids to the wall."
  • "Me they shall feel while I am able to stand; and 'tis known I am a pretty piece of flesh."
  • "What, ho!"
  • "Draw thy tool!"
  • "My naked weapon is out."
  • "Give me my long sword, ho!"
MORE REASONS TO WASH YOURSELF TOMORROW!

Favorite Song of the Week

What the heck. I'm bored. I'll just try this out today. Maybe I'll set a specific day for it. Maybe I'll surprise you. You never know with me. *shifty eyes*

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
It's Dangerous Business Walking Out Your Front Door
by: UnderOATH

I've been up at this all night long
I've been drowning in my sleep
I've prayed for your safe place
And its time for us to leave

Time is running, its running on empty and the gas is running out
I've decided that tonight is the night
That I let love aside
Full speed ahead this seems to be the place
I've seen this once before
Planned perfection sought in my dreams
Hoping this would take you home

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time

Around this turn where the cross will cast your shadow
The people will all gather
To remember such a day
Where the flames grew as high as trees
And the world stopped
It stopped for you and me

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your eyes)
My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
(So hold on tight)
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your...)

I will now bring new meaning to the word alone
Endless nights of dreaming of life
And the days we should have spent here

Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep
Drowning in my sleep I'm drowning in my sleep
(x6)

Glass shatters and comes to a halt
I thought we'd be there by now
I thought it would be so much quicker than this

Pain has never been so brilliant
I made sure you were buckled in
Now you can walk hand in hand
Hand in hand with Him

My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your eyes)
My knuckles have turned to white
There's no turning back tonight
(So hold on tight)
Kiss me one last time
(Shut your...)

A Beautiful Lie Facts

(courtesy of http://www.rocksound.tv/articles/867/30-Seconds-To-Mars-A-Beautiful-Lie.html)

The crew refused to set foot on the glacier because it was deemed too dangerous

The weather was so cold that taking your hood off for a minute could result in frostbite. Their hoods were off for the entire video.

39 hours of film were shot. 5 minutes of slow motion were used, all and all about 1:59 of footage.

It was filmed from a helicopter by amatures, because of the dangerous conditions on the actual iceburg

The black lines you see in the video are huge slits in the ice. Thousands of others are unseen. The glaciers were literally breaking under their feet.

If you look closely during part of the video you can see pools in the glaciers. These are water pools from the glacier melting.

At one point (Though edited out) Jared slips and starts to fall down the slippery hill. He saves himself about 20 feet from falling off the cliff.

It took almost a year to plan, took a week to film, and 6 months to edit.

Jared directed, (partially) paid for, and edited the video himself. He edited it on 3 different countries while filming his new movie Mr. Nobody.

The original idea was to film in Antarctica, and the crew wanted it filmed on a green screen. Jared refused to back down and Greenland was eventually chosen for the video (And no green screen was ever used)

The idea of the video was to show the world what we're losing by not caring about the environment. These beautiful glaciers are melting, and aren't only effecting those who live by.

The band had to carry all of their own equiptment on and off of the helicopter. In the scene with the flags, the helicopter caused so much wind that Shannon's drum set would go flying 30 feet away.

192 kinds of insurance were required to shoot the video.

It was so dangerous that the helicopter crew said if not returned to the chopper at a certain time, they would leave without them and the band would have to sleep on the glacier.

When Jared got the tapes to edit, the company gave him the wrong playback machine. He had to pay thousands of his own dollars to rent the correct machine.

For every pound of carbon emissions, they purchase green tags to offset the environmental damage.

And the most honorable thing of all, after shoveling barels of his own money into this video, EVERY DIME FROM THE PROCEEDS OF THIS VIDEO GO TO THE NRDC (natural resources defense council)

P.S. I could possibly be starting a new concept of the blog. A "Favorite Song of the Week" or something. To entertain your thoughts when I have nothing to blog about. Thanks to Alissa!!!
