Favorite Song of the Week

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
That's Our Hero Shot
by: Daphne Loves Derby

Watch this coward dance
I keep my feet so close to the ground
With every step, without a sound
Mother, look away
Cause I don’t know who I’ve become
Since that November day
When I said I wouldn’t change
Maybe I can’t be surprised…

Take my hands
I can twist out lines for every situation
All I have
Is a heart that’s trained to calculate my losses in the end

Slow steps…
Don’t forget to think of posture
Now deep breaths, with deeper words
Listen now…
This is where it matters most
Every phrase will count
Just make sure you can run away; just in case…
Day after day you’ll get used to
The guilt from the necks you bite into

This town was built to remind me of all my mistakes
But I have plans to burn every building
So no one will be here to hold my hands
...

I Can't Prove That This Makes Any Sense

So, to be organized here, we'll go in order...in order of time, not of importance:

This weekend, as most of you know (if you can read), I was in Arkansas for "spring break." It was a long drive, a.k.a. 9 hours one way. A good 22 hours in the car altogether. Good times visiting my family up there (down there?), though. We hadn't seen them for awhile, and a lot of things changed. It's funny how you forget how funny your relatives are when you haven't seen them in awhile...

On our way there, we stopped in Kansas City to hit an American Apparel store, and I FINALLY got an American Apparel hoodie like I've been wanting. A nice addition to the trip.

In Arkansas we did a bit of shopping too, especially at the A to Z stores, i.e. several warehouses full of everything you know you don't need but buy anyway. We brought back gifts back for most of you (you know who you are...). We also gambled...I lost. And on a more exciting note, we got to go 4-wheeling through the open plains of Arkansas. Between the everyone's properties, we had a lot of acres to 4-wheel through. So that was pretty fun and frightening, and other F words I do and don't know!

Next up, I'm hoping most of you know of the big event that was yesterday. All I can say is

WELCOME TO THE SOUND OF PRETTY. ODD.

It was amazing, because I got my Deluxe Edition copy yesterday in the mail, so I didn't have to wait for three weeks like I thought I would. I've semi-listened to the whole thing as of now, and I'm really excited (funny, iTunes keeps playing all the Pretty. Odd. songs. And it's playing my whole 405-song playlist. Odd. PRETTY odd. Hehheheh. I've been doing that a lot...). It's a lot different, less techno-dancey with !'s, and more laid-back, folky and Beatles-ey with .'s. I'm hoping to get a chance to listen to it all closely tonight, following along with the lyrics and all. I'm so happy Ryan Ross (guitarist) gets to sing, as well! We all knew he had a good voice, so it's good he gets a little mic time, along with Spencer and Jon. In other Panic news, my mom got the tickets for the Council Bluffs concert yesterday. Lots of Panic love on the 25th...

Oh, and I got my Powerspace T-shirt, too. Hopefully it will be washed by tomorrow and I'll be sporting it around. It kinda got lost in the Pretty. Odd. excitement.

Well, due to lack of sleep, I feel that I've been rambling and adding details where they don't need to be added. Can't. Concentrate.

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Dear Maria, Count Me In - All Time Low
P.S. Kait and Liss went to a Three Days Grace concert last night. Check out their blogs for more details...I'm sure it was great!
P.S.S. I'll be uploading the Arkansas pictures soon, too. Stay tuned!

Favorite Song of the Week

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
Thank You Ending
by: Number One Gun

They're so into themselves.
People have ups and downs.
It's not who they're against,
it's who they're acting for.
If you're so insecure,
then why didn't you lock the door?
And why the hell did you ask if I'm what heaven's hoping for.

Tell me, maybe,
what you want with the ending of this life.
Soon you'll be something more.
But you're so tired of trying.

I know it's not a lot.
But I'll show you what I've got.
It doesn't seem to take,
take away from what it's not.
I know I'll be there soon.
You say that every time.
Look what I'm up against.
I won't forget about you.

Tell me, maybe,
what you want with the ending of this life.
Soon you'll be something more.
But you're so tired of trying.

You hide in places all alone.
You know it, you know it.
Your bleeding face,
oh how it shows.
You show it, oh you show it.
Your bleeding face,
oh how it shows.
You show it, oh you show it.
Go burn this down, go burn this down.

Tell me, maybe,
what you want with the ending of this life.
Soon you'll be something more.
But you're so tired of trying.

Take your matches.
Burn this down.
So help me.
I'm trying, I'm not perfect, forgive me.
All I want is a beginning of something more than what I have.
I'm trying.

HONORABLE MENTIONS: Get Ready (Hot Machete) - Jonezetta,
Dear Maria, Count Me In - All Time Low,
Secret, Secret - Nihilio

Sorry about the grim title. Seems like there's a lot of that going around right now though. Spring cleaning? I seem to be shunned out of a lot of things, at least...

But enough of that..."spring break" starts tomorrow. We'll be jetting off (in a car) to Arkansas to visit family, gone all "break." As if two extra days amounts to anything. Take it or leave it, though, I guess. So, if anyone is planning on making plans, plan not to cuz I'm planning to not be planning here. Plan. That's one of those words that don't look right after typing it 6 times.

I was looking up lyrics for my new songs yesterday on Google, and guess what I found?!?!? My blog on the hitlist. Oh yeah... no wonder you stalkers can find me. Google magic my friends...

iTunes needs to go update somewhere, if you know what I mean, cuz they won't put the freakin' ne Scenes & Sirens album on! It came out FRIDAY. It is WEDNESDAY! Do I have the ability to listen to The South Will Dance Again on my handy iCRAP? No. *twitches into a rage*

CONGRATS TO ALL BLOG READERS AND MYSELF HERE AT YOU DON'T KNOW ME! THIS IS THE 50TH POST!!! WHOOO!

Alissa! Remember to give Kaitlyn the CD!

FSOTW coming soon!

Leaving for now,
your blogger.

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Puppet On a String - The Hives
P.S. I never realized until today how much it bothers me when some people don't have to work to get to where they are, while some of us are stuck in the back, trying to work our way up. But it's pointless, right? Because the people who got there already by not working have already taken the spot we're working toward. I don't know, maybe it's just me. Anybody else?

Welcome To the Gun Show

SO much to talk about. It's unbelievable. I never have things to blog about...well my day has come. To start off with, I just got an E-Mail in regards to my Fueled By Ramen package, and it has started shipment! YAYAYAYAY! PRETTY. ODD.! Also, I can take on 17 five-year-olds in a fight. And not that you noticed, I just took a 2-hour break between the last sentence and this to watch The Cutting Edge 3: Chasing the Dream. I predicted the whole thing, seeing as all the Cutting Edge movies are exactly the same. But ya gotta love 'em. #2's still my fave.

On Friday, Kaitlyn, Alissa and I went to Alissa's church for a concert of the Christian kind. What I want to know is how we ended up with hardcore, pig-squealing screamo for all 3/5 of the acts. Oh, well. Five bands for $2 is a pretty good deal in my mind. The first one and the last one were good, whereas the middle three, not so much...we sat out. And tried to decipher what exactly they were saying. Or screaming. "The rats ate the radio?" I also happened to get hit with EVERYTHING while we were there. Fat screamo guy throws water bottle? Hits Melanie. Fat screamo guy runs into crowd? Melanie gets covered in sweat, and promptly wipes it on Alissa. Nihilio's drummer (Pete) throws drumstick into crowd? Melanie gets hit in the shin with said drumstick. That last one wasn't so bad, seeing as I wanted a drumstick...especially from the band I really liked. We bought their merch (thanks Lissa's mom!), and you should see me in a nice robot shirt tomorrow. We also got to meet the band members. Justin got a nosebleed and thought he had a Hot Topic tag on him (we know where he gets his shirts), Ryan sang us Moulin Rouge since we didn't want to smack him in the belly for buying our t-shirts... Ask about it sometime if you want more details. I'm tired of typing it all.

So, Kaitlyn and Alissa spent the night, and we organized Pokemon cards, played hide-and-go-seek, listened to the EP we bought the night before, and, oh yeah, extinguished the flaming corndog my sister put in the microwave...for 10 minutes. Our microwave was billowing smoke when we walked into the kitchen, and our house still smells awful, even though my mom Pine-Sol'ed the walls. What scares me is that our fire alarms didn't go off, even though it was hard to breathe through the clouds of noxious honey-battered frank smoke. Not to mention the paper towel and styrofoam plate, a.k.a. fuel for 'da flame.

Well that's about it. Turns out it wasn't much, but it took up a lot of space!

P.S. I hear Who's too...

I Like The Voice In My Head...

Well, it's been a good week in my life for music. I actually have TWO favorite songs this week. And I don't think you need lyrics and band pictures to enjoy them. So, they are...

- Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape by UnderOATH from their album
They're Only Chasing Safety
-
Between You and I by Every Avenue from their NEW album Shh. Just Go With It

Go check 'em out. You'll probably enjoy them.

So I just got back from driving around...and right turns and yield signs can go jump into the center of the busiest intersection. Another couple tally marks to add to the number of times I've almost killed myself and others while behind the wheel.

Mrs. Wallenberg is officially out to get me. No lie. We (we being Zoey, Rich, Mary, Jake and myself), were standing at my locker, comparing the graffiti on it to Mrs. Wallenberg's room/Satan herself. (It says "hell," by the way, if you don't know me). When over my shoulder, she appears in her sunny yellow sweater and wants to know what we were going to finish that conversation with. Several "uh" and "um"'s in response. When she leaves, we burst out into frightened, nervous giggles.

On top of that, since Zoey was sick today, I waited for my dad to come in a very dark Little Theater with three guys for an hour. Wanna know what we talked about? I'll never tell.
it was pokemon

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Ants - Forgive Durden
Poor Forgive Durden. They broke up, ya know?

Fancy Guitar Chugga-Chuggas

Why have I not been posting as of late? The real question is WHY DON'T I HAVE PANIC TICKETS?!? I'm gonna be SOOOOO pissed when they're sold out without a nice seat/floor space for Melanie. Beyond the fact that everyone will be going to two concerts that weekend, I will be alone - possibly not even going to one. At least I'll have Alissa to pout with. Let's all cross our fingers that she'll be able to join the rave in Council Bluffs, minus the electronic dance music and ecstasy. (Well, I could be surprised at what Pretty. Odd. will sound like...or what designer drugs are used in Iowa.)

It's been a pretty good week. I finished my English project and gave the presentation of said English project...AND DIDN'T FAIL! Which is always good. I also didn't have to give a speech or write one this weekend. I had no homework, therefore allowing me to have a social life again. Too bad me and the little satan were home alone all weekend, thus limiting above-mentioned social life. Oh, and she had a child. What does that make me, an aunt? Ick.

I've driven a few times since we last...read. I almost killed me and my mom and the groceries on our driveway. That would be why there's a giant Prius-shaped indentation in our snowbank - going UP the hill. Who put that snow there anyway?

I really need to watch more movies. I'm thinking DVR. Free movies On Demand = hours of entertainment. And they're cheaper than buzzing out to see what's playing locally. Since they're free.

More random thoughts next time...

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Shameless - All Time Low
P.S. Ryanguy thinks I'm cute. E for EMO!

Favorite Song of the Week

I think I like my singing voice more when I'm sick...but not with hiccups. Oh, and another important date from last week's FSOTW would be Maddy's Birthday on March 26.

MY FAVORITE SONG THIS WEEK IS...
Helena (So Long and Goodnight)
by: My Chemical Romance

Long ago
Just like the hearse you die to get in again
We are so far from you

Burning on just like a match you strike to incinerate
The lives of everyone you know

And what's the worst you take
From every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Came a time
When every star fall brought you to tears again
We are the very hurt you sold

And what's the worst you take
From every heart you break
And like the blade you stain
Well I've been holding on tonight

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Can you hear me
Are you near me
Can we pretend to leave and then
We'll meet again
When both our cars collide

What's the worst that I could say
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight
And if you carry on this way
Things are better if I stay
So long and goodnight
So long and goodnight

Jump The Gun

Sorry for the lack of posting. I've been a little swamped with procrastination, the occasional homework assignment and disease.

GUESS WHO CAN GET HER LEARNER'S PERMIT?!?!? It only took two tries...but I'm SO GLAD DRIVER'S ED IS OVER! I can't even express it in words. Now we move onto the driving portion. I can only think of one thing more frightening than me on the road...me on the INTERSTATE going +65 mph. At least once I get my Learner's I can practice driving legally with a person over 18 years of age between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. (see, Melanie WAS listening during DE...)

I also got over the fact that Elizabethan England sucked and finished my project last night. It's pretty good for being written in under two hours with no experience prior. Now I need to work on that presentation...

How much do the new Schedule Regulations suck, people? I think we should picket! Gather the wood and paint my fellow freshman! I've already taken a semester of P.E. and I'm taking Hellth. And now we hear one has been a waste of time? PICKET!

On a lighter note, here's a few bands you should all listen to and enjoy:
- Daphne Loves Derby
- Edsion Glass
- Driving East
- Number One Gun
- Flight 409
- FM Static
- Haste the Day
- Kill Paradise
- Sullivan
- The Send
- Test Your Reflex

Also, one person we haven't heard about recently, my Sweater Guy, likes to run into people. He ran into me today and afterschool basically bowled down Zoey. We won't mention what happened after that event...including Rich dramatically falling to the floor in front of Crushing Barbie Chick. Which was funny. At least my Sweater Guy hasn't DISAPPEARED OFF THE FACE OF THE PLANET. Remind Alissa to find a new one.

I'd like to finish with a quote from Jack Handey I came across today: "
If trees could scream, would we be so cavalier about cutting them down? We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason." And if that doesn't make you laugh, go put a "Kick Me" sign on your FACE.

What is Melanie listening to right now?: Dismantle.Repair. - Anberlin
P.S. Yes, the Rice Krispie wrappers ARE different.
